毳 Fluff (Cui)

清水眷村房舍的地板多數採用小磁磚拼貼，與現今常見的地板材料選擇截然不同。地磚不僅在台灣的住宅中扮演著重要的角色，更反映了時代變遷。不同樣式和花色的磁磚常常成為判斷房齡的重要依據。當某些磁磚樣式逐漸退流行，製造工廠也跟著停止生產，這些磁磚樣式便漸漸退出市場，也漸漸消失在建築中。

我注意到，在此次入駐期間，房舍的許多角落都出現磁磚缺失的情況，以及一些再修補的痕跡。大部分的缺失區域都位於經常踩踏的區域，例如樓梯前緣和浴室踏腳處。磁磚的填補處，可能是因為難以找到原始樣式，所以使用相似顏色和尺寸的磁磚進行簡易修補。

這些缺失的地方是房舍中僅存的痕跡，就像傷痕一樣，帶有一絲溫度。我根據缺失的磁磚尺寸，製作了相同尺寸的絨毛地毯，希望能夠填補這些缺口，同時讓它們重新恢復地板的功能，重新與人親近。

The floors of the houses in Qing Shui Military Dependents’ Village are mostly composed of small mosaic tiles, a material choice quite distinct from those commonly used today. Floor tiles not only play an important role in Taiwanese domestic spaces, but also reflect shifts over time. Variations in patterns and colors often serve as indicators of a building’s age. As certain tile designs fall out of fashion and factories cease production, these styles gradually disappear from both the market and the built environment.

During my residency, I noticed that many corners of the houses showed signs of missing tiles, along with traces of repair. Most of these areas were located in frequently stepped-on places, such as the edges of stairs or bathroom thresholds. The repaired sections often used tiles of similar color and size, likely due to the difficulty of sourcing the original designs.

These missing fragments are among the few remaining traces within the house—like scars, carrying a subtle sense of warmth. Based on the dimensions of the absent tiles, I created soft tufted textile pieces of the same size, intending to fill these gaps. At the same time, I hope to restore their function as part of the floor, allowing them to reconnect with the presence of the body.
