《大地之森》戳繡系列靈感來自我在2023年冬季於新竹北埔大地農場的駐村經驗。

 

台灣山區人口密集,少數能保留原始林相的地方更顯珍貴,而北埔的大地農場正是這樣的例外。這片私人山林,曾作為林業用地與私人招待所,直到2022年才以休閒農場開放遊客。隱匿在山谷中的林地保持著自然生態,林間常見台灣特有的動植物。隨著季節變化,森林呈現不同的景致,也成為我創作的靈感來源。

我將觀察到的四季景象製作成兩幅戳繡作品:

「幫穿山甲治病的兔兔」是秋冬的景緻,落羽松染上秋紅,是秋林裡罕見的亮色。洛神花在寒意中結出飽滿果實,竹林裡的筍子悄悄冒出。穿山甲是台灣珍貴的保育動物,夜晚會穿梭於土丘間。作品裡,兔子手持洛神花為活動力下降的穿山甲療癒,也象徵秋冬森林的寧靜,這裡是能安心休養生息的土地。

 

「取青梅籽的兔兔」則是描寫春夏陽光明媚,農林生機勃勃。龍石子沿林間攀爬,筍子進入成熟季節,有些高大雖無法食用,但依然壯觀。山林中的姑婆芋結紅果,梅樹亦同。晴明時節正是收梅釀梅酒或果醋的時候,若採收晚了,梅子將變黃,落地化為土地養分。

這兩幅作品不僅呈現四季的景色,也反映了森林的生命節奏與自然變化。本系列以戳繡為主要創作方法,嘗試以毛線建構出色彩豐富且帶有半立體感的畫面。在創作過程中,我也逐漸對手工所呈現的質地產生興趣,並關注材質與觸感如何帶來溫暖、柔軟且具有療癒感的視覺經驗。

“Forest of the Earth” Embroidery Series draws inspiration from my residency at Dadi Farm (大地農場) in Beipu(北埔), Hsinchu(新竹), during the winter of 2023.

 

In Taiwan, even mountainous areas are often densely populated, making places that preserve original forest ecosystems increasingly rare. Dadi Farm is one such exception. This private forest, once used for forestry and as a private retreat, only opened to visitors as a recreational farm around 2022. Nestled in a secluded valley, it maintains a largely untouched ecosystem, where many native Taiwanese plants and animals can be found. As the seasons shift, the forest reveals different landscapes, which became the foundation of my creative exploration.I translated my observations of seasonal changes into two embroidery pieces:

 

Autumn–Winter(A Rabbit Treating a Pangolin): The cypress trees turn a vivid red, a rare brightness within the autumn forest. Roselle plants bear plump fruits in the cold, while bamboo shoots quietly emerge from the ground. The pangolin, a protected species in Taiwan, moves among the mounds at night. In the work, a rabbit holds a roselle flower, tending to a pangolin whose energy has slowed with the coming of winter. This scene reflects the calm and restorative quality of the forest during the colder seasons.

 

Spring–Summer(A Rabbit Removing Seeds from Green Plums): Under bright sunlight, the forest and farmland are full of vitality. Skink(龍石子)are entwined with climbing plants, and bamboo shoots reach maturity—some growing too tall to be eaten, yet still striking in their presence. Taro plants bear red fruits, as do plum trees. During the Qingming season, plums are harvested to make plum wine or fruit vinegar. If left too long, they ripen into yellow plums and fall to the ground, returning as nourishment to the soil.

 

These two works not only depict the changing seasons, but also reflect the rhythms of life and the cycles of nature within the forest.Created using punch needle embroidery, this series explores the use of yarn to construct richly colored, subtly three-dimensional surfaces. Through this process, I developed a growing interest in the tactile qualities of handmade work, particularly in how material and texture can evoke a sense of warmth, softness, and quiet healing.
